I am currently working on writing and sending thank you's to the families and businesses that donated to help my project. I am nearly the point where I can get them sent off, but I'm not totally there. I am truly thankful for these donors as this project would not have been possible without their donations.

Today we were able to present our presentations for the first time. It was only in front of our class and teacher, so it was good practice. We will practice them again next week, because the week following that we will present them to the public then to the judges. I still have some small things to tweak in mine, but I feel it went well and it will get better.
After counting the donations and team registration fees there is a total amount of $2,869.75, but $732 had to be accounted for from that for buying the t-shirts and the money given as a cash prize to the winners.
Yesterday was the day of my tournament. It was a long day starting with set-up at 7 a.m. There were teams showing up at 8 in the morning as well which I didn't expect, but they were polite and waited patiently for us to set-up because registration wasn't until 8:30. Once everything was set-up more teams showed and the games started shortly after. The whole day of games ran super smoothly with very few problems.
The final game ended at about 5 in the afternoon, so when the teams cleared out we started cleaning up. Clean up only took about an hour which was nice. Now the only things left to do is count the money from the day and send thank-you's to those that helped with the day. I designed and ordered a banner to hang up the day of my event. The banner has what the event is with the same logo as on the t-shirts. Also like the t-shirts, the donors of the event are listed so people can see them. I was able to get the banner fairly cheap for the size of it. It is six foot by 3 foot.
I got all the t-shirts ordered for the prizes for the champions. Honestly they were slightly more expensive than I thought, but the donations will cover them so that is great!
As the event is growing closer there are more teams signing up, which is great! I am surprised at the amount of teams for the elementary and Adult divisions! I'm hoping interest will grow the closer it draws and I get more teams.
It's almost a month until my tournament, as more teams are starting to sign up, which is great! I am also getting my concession stand items more narrowed down, as well as t-shirts. I have a final t-shirt design but am still pricing different companies to get them from.
I am still having people asking questions about the tournament and am still thinking about different aspects of it, such as concession items, number of shirts to order, amount of refs to have, rules for the tournament, and a waiver for participants to sign, just to name a few.
I've started having people register teams for the tournament! And a thing that surprised me is the interest in having an elementary division. I did not think there would be much interest in this, but it seems I will have to add that division, which is a good thing!
I designed my t-shirt designs for my tournament. The winners from each division will receive a t-shirt as part of their prize. My mentor and I, along with the other workers of the tournament will each get t-shirts to wear. I did also quickly price the t-shirts on a website, just to get a rough estimate on price.
The past few days and weeks most of my work for my project has included advertising for my tournament. I do this by hanging flyers at locations that I feel will generate the most interest, such as surrounding schools and at basketball tournaments in the area. I am also using different social media platforms, along with my mentor doing the same as well. Hopefully this helps to create a large turnout for my senior project!
I am currently working on speaking with business owners in the area to see about them possibly donating for my tournament. These donations would help pay for t-shirts and food/drinks for the concession stands along with advertising that I will do. I am also considering adding contributors over a particular dollar amount to the t-shirts.
I created my poster advertising my event and started hanging them around White Lake and other towns at various events and places that I feel will help draw interest to my event. All the information about the tournament is on the poster, including the date and time, the reason for having the tournament, my mentor, price for entering and the cause I chose to donate to. My contact information is also on the posters so people can contact me with questions or to enter a team.
I have now have selected a mentor for my Senior Project. My mentor is Lee Palmer, who works with the organization called Sacred Hoops. He works with media and organizing events, like the Sacred Hoops Classic, so I thought he would be a good mentor to help organize a 3-on-3 basketball tournament. I am excited to get this project going further and cannot wait until the day of the tournament!
Back in October, I finished and turned in my research paper. It was nice to finish it and be able to hand it in. I also learned a lot about diabetes and different aspects about it. The research has made me glad that I chose that foundation to donate to and I know it will be helping numerous people through their life changing disease. Now my paper is done, the only thing I have left to do is my final project.
For my research paper, I have completed my rough draft thus far. Currently I am looking over it and doing revisions where needed. After I have done this, I will be able to turn it in and focus solely on my physical project. I am excited for the work to come for this and to see how everything turns out.
After considering my various options for a final project I have chosen to host a 3-on-3 basketball tournament, and donate proceeds to the American Diabetes Association. I believe a tournament such as this one should have some success as people of any age/skill level can participate. It will be a fun experience for those who partake, and sports are a big part of life in small towns such as those around here.
Along with my physical project, I am writing a research paper dealing with my senior project. The topic for my paper is diabetes, and educating people about it. I have chosen this as my topic and I have decided that the revenue earned from my final project will be donated to diabetes research.
Yesterday in class we created Weebly websites for our Senior Projects where we will document our projects as we go. Some ideas I have for my project is hosting a 3-on-3 basketball tournament in which the proceeds will go to a charity/foundation that I choose, I enjoy basketball along with other sports and I love to help others. Another idea is shadowing a person in the medical field, which I plan to go into following high school.
